Handcrafted of recycled brass using the "lost wax" method of casting, this elephant candlestick is a typical example of the folk art of the region. The fine detail and traditional ornamentation and decoration on the piece were achieved using finely woven wax threads which is a hallmark of "lost wax" casting which is known as dhokra work in India. The brass alloy was made from recycled metal. Elephants are a symbol of royalty and power in India. It is 4 1/4" tall.
